Alabama S3DA Team Takes Flight With Help From Lancaster Archery Foundation
The Lancaster Archery Foundation has awarded a grant to help a fledgling S3DA team in Alabama get off the ground.
Henry County Archers of Newville, Ala., received $1,000 to put toward an indoor range target “allowing our newly formed team to practice,” club organizers wrote on their grant application to the foundation.
The nonprofit club recently was approved to field its own S3DA team, filling a need for kids living within Henry County.
“Every county around us has a team and this will allow our students to participate without having to travel far distances just for practice,” club organizers said.
“Majority of our team members have never competed in archery, much less shot a bow, so it is introducing a new generation of youth to the sport.”
Team members currently are practicing indoors at a school gymnasium and outdoors on a football field.
“We also have potential access to a team members land for a 3D range, however lanes need to be cut,” team officials said. “This will be done in the fall time frame with parents and students help.”
Rob Kaufhold, president of Lancaster Archery Foundation’s board of directors, said making archery convenient to new archers is critical to their longevity in the sport.
“If kids and their parents have to drive long distances just to shoot, some of them are probably going to eventually drop out,” he said. “It’s important to Henry County kids to have their own team, in their own backyard.”
Based in Lancaster, Pa., the Lancaster Archery Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expand, develop and promote 3D and target archery to help people improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills through participation in competitive archery.
