Lancaster Archery Foundation Helps Maryland Club Seeing Explosion in Interest

The Lancaster Archery Foundation has awarded a grant to a Maryland club that is seeking to assist flocks of new people interested in its archery programs.

Southern Maryland Archery Club received a $1,000 grant from the foundation to buy new Genesis bows and arrows and new armguards to meet the needs of these archery newcomers.

Club organizers said they have seen a 40-percent increase in membership over the past two years, including many families with children.

The club has plenty of facilities, but it needs a variety of equipment to let new people of all ages and abilities experience archery.

“What we are currently experiencing is not the right type of equipment for everyone,” organizers said. “For example, we had a safety class and the children could only draw a mini Genesis, but we only had one right-handed mini Genesis.”

With the Lancaster Archery Foundation grant, Southern Maryland hopes to add several new bows to its lineup.

“We are excited that one of our nearby clubs, Southern Maryland Archery Club, is seeing such growth in interest,” said Rob Kaufhold, president of the foundation’s board. “It’s clubs like theirs that are the backbone of archery in the U.S. They are the ones that produce the next generation of archers.”

Based in Lancaster, Pa., the Lancaster Archery Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expand, develop and promote 3D and target archery to help people improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills through participation in competitive archery.
